Mykola Khomenko was born in 1944. With a specialization as an engineer-economist in the specialty of «Economics and enterprise planning of enterprises in metallurgy industry», he graduated from the Kharkov Engineering Economic Institute. Then he was working as an engineer (and as a junior scientist afterwards) at the All-Union Research Institute of the Industrial Management in Iron and Steel Industry(in Kharkov).
During 1970 – 1972 he studied at the postgraduate course at Kharkov Engineering and Economic Institute in the specialty: 08.00.21 – «Economics, management organization and planning of the industry and its branches». Then he continued his career at Kharkov Engineering and Economic Institute, firstly, as a lecturer, and later as a senior lecturer, and since 1981 as an Associated Professor.
In 1973 he obtained a degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences, thesis title: «The ways to improve the performance of the oxygen-converter workshops».
During 1982-84 Mykola Khomenko was doing his doctoral studying at the Kharkov Engineering Economic Institute in the speciality: «Economics and enterprise planning of enterprises in metallurgy industry», and defended his thesis in 1987 obtaining a degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences, thesis title: «The problems of management improving and economic forecasting of the industrial processes at metallurgical enterprises».
Since 1991 Mykola Khomenko had been holding a Professor position at Department of Economics at the Kremenchuk branch of Kharkiv State Polytechnic Institute, and then became the head of it.
Since December, 1995 Mykola Khomenko has been a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine in the speciality: «The Economy of industry».
In 1997 Mykola Khomenko became Head of Department of Management at the Kremenchuk branch of Kharkiv State Polytechnic Institute.
On the 17th December, 2003 he was awarded for the «Excellence in education of Ukraine».
In 2005 Mykola Khomenko became a Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Sciences in Russia.
Now Mykola Khomenko is a head of one of scientific schools running at KrNU, namely «The Regional Management of the Enterprise Competitiveness».
1998-2000 – a member of the National Academic Council at the Dnipropetrivsk National Academy,
2000-2007 – a member of the National Academic Council at Kharkiv State Polytechnic Institute.
2007-2010 – a member of the Expert Council In Management and Trade at the State Accreditation Committee of Ukraine.
Since 2013 – a member of the Academic Council of Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi National University.
