On the 4th of March 2010 on the initiative of the US Embassy in Ukraine, particularly of the specialist for Academic Education, Public affairs Department Vera Ternovska and International Department of Kremenchuk Mykhaylo Ostrogradskyi State University, a web-chat took place on «Comics as part of American culture » between the group ÌÏ-06-1, ÅÏ-09-1 of our university and Eric Salzman, Economic Officer of the U.S. Embassy.
Such it would seem children’s topic interested students greatly. As it turned out during the conversation the comics which were read in childhood have a great influence on the person’s life in future. Eric Salzman called students’ attention to the presentation, where they could observe all the way of comics’ development from first ones till nowadays. Also there were discussed the themes of comics’ popularity in the USA and in Ukraine and of the children’s and youth’s tastes in these two countries. It was also interesting for students to know if the US government responds in some way on the between whiles explicit content of the some comics. To be more precise, the students wanted to know if there any press censorship towards comics.
We would like to remind you that it is third event in the web-chat format arranged in our university since in April 2009 students of our university had a web-chat with Anaida Haas, Deputy Press attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and in October, 2009 there was arranged a web-chat with James A. Thurber who is an outstanding professor of government, founder and director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in the U.S.University, District of Columbia.
We consider that such experience is very important for the students of our University as long as the conversation with a native speaker of the language you learn and all the more the discussion of the interesting for each side themes are useful additions to the theoretic knowledge, they get in the University.
