The seminar "Modern technologies, including technologies «WEB 2.0» in librarianship”
March 23, 2010, initiated by Head of International Relations Department, Andrii Markevych, and Director of Information Resource Center of U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Valentyna Pashkova, students of "Documentation and information activities" and "International Management" specializations together with employees of the University Library become participants in the seminar "Modern technologies, including technologies «WEB 2.0» in librarianship”. This workshop was held at the Center of Information Resources of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
The first one welcoming guests was Press Attaché of U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Nancy Pettit. She told the seminar participants about the structure of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, its tasks and functions and expressed hope that the workshop will be useful and interesting for both students and library professionals.
Valentyna Pashkova familiarized participants with the work of the Information Resource Center, spoke about innovations in librarianship and modern approaches to managing documents.
The speech of Olesya Trachuk, specialist Information Resources Centre of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, consisted of two parts. In the first part she did review the U.S. Embassy Site in Ukraine: emphasized the useful links related to grants, training programs and professional development programs for students and library professionals, presented with electronic journals and messengers. In the second part of his speech Olesya Trachuk provided to attention to presentation, which dealt with the WEB 2.0 technologies in librarianship. This topic has aroused keen interest among students and librarians, because of such concepts as blogs, social networks, Simple, they face almost daily and not only for study or work, and in everyday life. Participants were presented with audio and video libraries, the new format. No less interesting for the participants was the possibility of developing their own online catalog and its own virtual world. As for Wikipedia (open multilingual encyclopedia), the representatives from the Information Resource Centre was offered to accommodate an information on Kremenchuk Mykhaylo Ostrogradskiy State University, which is very favorable supply and requires implementation. Olesya Trachuk at the end of her presentation drew attention to the main features of the modern librarian. These she brought it to the following: using new Internet technologies in their professional activities run their own blogs on books and library topics of email correspondence with colleagues, including foreign ones, of an active professional life in the Internet Archive have links to professional and semi- subject to social bookmarking sites, etc... This last generalization inspired employees of the University library at the idea of creating their own blog.
We hope that this seminar will be useful for students and professionals of Kremenchuk Mykhaylo Ostrogradskiy State University library in their studies and careers.
