State Scholarship Program of the People`s Republic of China
On March 22, 2011 Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi National University (KrNU) signed a bilateral Agreement of Cooperation with Lanzhou Jiaotong University (Lanzhou, China). Under this agreement, graduates from KrNU, have been competitively selected for study by the State Scholarship Program of the People`s Republic of China.
The training program started in September 2011. Already at the airport they felt trapped into another, such distant, part of the world. Unfamiliar language, incomprehensible characters, lots of people, who looked surprised and photographed them (in fact with very different appearance) – all these were so unusual! The first experience with Chinese language they got while trying to take a taxi to the university. Two phrases (learned by heart) in comparison with a whole bunch of words and gestures of Chinese drivers, caused laughter, but still they reached the understanding. Then boys came to campus, which was great and beautiful (the area of the University is 1566 m2, buildings occupy 625,900 m2). Wonderful library contains 2,050,000 books.
On the same day, for the first time, boys had tasted the traditional Chinese food, such as: unusual taste soup "fugo" which consisted of seafood, cheese, tofu and, known throughout the country, Lanzhou noodles. It should be noted that the Chinese like to eat a lot, generally spicy, dishes to which our guys got used for a long time.
For the city itself, Lanzhou is historically interesting center of Chinese culture and traditions. It was known as "Silk Road", which gave a basis for a large number of museums and historic sites. The city is divided into two parts by the one of the greatest rivers of China - Yellow River. It is very interesting to spend free time in this city.
The training program includes one year of learning Chinese language and training according to the chosen specialty. All international students were divided into two groups. Ukrainian entered the class together with the students from such countries as USA, Belarus, Spain, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Laos and Nigeria.
The learning process is done in Chinese (after two weeks of training pairs teachers stopped using English), that`s why all students were fully immersed in a dynamic learning atmosphere. Every day all students write dictations on knowledge of characters, make up dialogues and performed various exercises in Chinese. First results our guys felt when they could communicate with the sellers in shop and were satisfied when they were understood.
At the end of the school semester they had exams in four subjects: grammar, spelling characters, oral language and listening comprehension. Currently, students successfully learn the language, which initially seemed quite impossible to understand.
No wonder that people consider China as the country of contrasts, unusual traditions and ancient culture, which we are interested to learn every day.
