Training of Experts on Quality Assurance in Higher Education

On November 20-23, 2018, the training for experts on quality assurance of higher education was held at the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv). Selected on a competitive basis, 50 of 266 participants from all Ukrainian higher education institutions were divided into 2 groups. The first group was trained in October. Representatives of Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostohradskyi National University Denys Zagirniak and Inna Khovrak were invited to attend the training in November. The training was conducted in English and Ukrainian with the involvement of Czech experts.

The training took place within the framework of the projects «Formation of a network of experts on the quality assurance of higher education» and «A new system of accreditation as a means of ensuring quality and overcoming corruption in higher education». With colleagues from Ukraine and the Czech Republic, the participants discussed the priorities of the European Higher Education Area and the main trends in the development of the quality assurance system. It was important to perceive values as a coordinate system for the development of education, as well as recognition of the influence and social responsibility of universities for the development of society!

The training sections for the participants were conducted by European and national experts on reforming higher education: Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Yuriy Rashkevich; President of the International Foundation for Research in Educational Policy Taras Finikov; Director of the Institute of Higher Education, National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine Svetlana Kalashnikova; First Vice-President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Lugovyi; researcher at the Center for Research in Higher Education of the Czech Republic Jan Beseda; deputy director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education in Prague, Michaela Schmidova and others.

The participants` greatest interest was the subject of reports related to the formation of attractiveness and competitiveness in the area of higher education, the motivation to achieve quality and the components of the culture of quality, professional ethics, institutional capacity of institutions and other important aspects of the development of higher education. The participants not only got acquainted with useful cases, they also performed interesting practical tasks during the workshops "Tools that allow feedback from interested parties» and «How to properly compile questionnaires for evaluation and avoid common mistakes».

During the training, the participants actively participated in discussions with speakers and deepened their own understanding of modern standards of higher education.
