The management of the Scientific Library of Kremenchuk National University and representatives of the University of Leicester (UK) have reached an agreement on cooperation in the English Classroom project. The British will provide English-language literature and teaching aids to support the work of the English language class at the library. The project is being implemented within the framework of a cooperation agreement concluded between KrNU and the University of Leicester in the fall of 2022.
Olena Shvets, Director of the Scientific Library of Kremenchuk National University, reported on the agreements reached. She noted that the negotiations lasted for a month, and several partner meetings were held online. The British were very attentive to the proposals of the librarians of KrNU and enthusiastically supported the idea of creating an English class at the library:
- They will provide us with English-language literature, both traditional, hard copy and electronic. These should include reference books, teaching materials, and open online courses on learning English. All this will be used for the English class. The library of our university should become an ambassador and the main distributor of English in the region, and for this purpose we plan to open an English classroom in the library. At the first stage, it will be open to our students and teachers who want to improve their knowledge of the language, and in the future we would like it to become publicly available to every citizen of Kremenchuk who wants to learn English. Now we are preparing a list of English-language literature for the British, and they will provide what we lack," says Olena Shvets.
The director of the library noted that the plans for cooperation with the British university are not limited to the English class, and that several more ideas and projects are in the pipeline:
- The University of Leicester Library has one of the largest local history collections in the country. The main collection contains about 37,000 items covering all the major counties of England. In addition, there are several rare book collections and archives. "With the help of specialists from the University of Leicester, the library of KrNU could create its own repository of rare, ancient, valuable publications; publications on local history and university history, among other things," says Olena Shvets.
She notes that there are also ideas for a joint project to create an ethnographic room at the university and organize 3-D tours of the collections of the libraries of KrNU and the University of Leicester, as well as virtual exhibitions and quests.
