Privileged students of KrNU received humanitarian aid from the University of Leicester (Great Britain)
08.05.23

At Kremenchuk National University (KrNU), students of privileged categories received jackets and coats provided by the University of Leicester (UoL)* as humanitarian aid. The campaign is being implemented within the framework of the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative international project and due to a cooperation agreement signed between Kremenchuk National University and the University of Leicester.

The proposal to provide targeted humanitarian aid to students of privileged categories came from the administration of the British university. It was announced by Geoff Green, University Registrar & Secretary 1. The management of Kremenchuk National University supported the idea. An agreement on providing targeted aid (seasonal clothing) to students of KrNU was reached in December 2022, immediately after the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the two universities.

KrNU provided a list of privileged students and a size chart of the clothes they needed. Our British colleagues promptly purchased the necessary items and delivered them to Ukraine. However, in Ukraine unexpected problems with customs clearance of the humanitarian aid happened . It took several months to resolve them in the legal field. The Centre for International Activity of Kremenchuk National University was involved. It was the first time Kremenchuk National University received humanitarian aid from foreign partners in this format, so we had to gain experience in a force majeure situation. Eventually, the problems were resolved, the cargo was cleared through customs and finally arrived in Kremenchuk.

On May 5, a public procedure for the transfer of targeted humanitarian aid was held at the Centre for International Activity of KrNU. The process was led by Associate Professor Andrii Gladyr, Director of the Centre for International Activity of KrNU. The event was also attended by the Head of the Department of Educational and Cultural- Mass Work, Associate Professor Tamara Plaksiy. On this day, most of the students received jackets and coats (33 in total). We are grateful to our British partners for their efficient work - almost all the clothes fit the recipients.

The students receiving the humanitarian aid are internally displaced persons, orphans, and children whose parents are currently fighting the Russian occupants at the front. Currently, the process of transferring the targeted humanitarian aid is ongoing, it is taking place in a public format, and the lists of recipients have been approved not only by the university administration but also by the student self-government bodies - the student council and the student trade union committee.
