Humanitarian aid from University of Leicester (UK) arrived at Kremenchuk National University
11.06.24

The total weight of the aid is 1355 kilograms, the cost is 1700 GBP. The Sender is the University of Leicester (UoL), UK. KrNU was finally able to receive the long-awaited humanitarian aid due to getting the official status of the Recipient of Humanitarian Aid.

On June 11, a truck with humanitarian aid arrived at Kremenchuk National University, which was collected by our British partners from the University of Leicester. The cargo was met by: First Vice-Rector of the University Professor Volodymyr Nykyforov, Director of the Center for International Activities of KrNU Associate Professor Andrii Gladyr, teachers, graduate students and students. Graduate students and students were invited to unload gifts, and they coped with their task perfectly.

KrNU since July 2022 has been cooperating with the University of Leicester within the framework of the international project "UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative."

British partners transferred to the university:

- 43 computers;

- 40 jackets for students of privileged categories (according to the compiled list);

- 20 tables;

- 42 soft chairs.

The total weight of the cargo is 1355 kilograms. The most expected in this party were computers, the Rector of KrNU, Professor Mykhaylo Zagirnyak, for a long time negotiated with the UoL Partners on the modern computers necessary for the university to ensure a high-quality educational process. Preliminary agreements on a batch of computers were reached back in the summer of 2023, during Rector’s visit to the University of Leicester.

British partners transferred computers for the first time. Instead, winter coats for students of privileged categories were sent for the second time. Students-beneficiaries received the first batch a year ago. It is worth noting that the colleagues from University of Leicester have prepared the jackets that had to arrive before the New Year and students had to receive them in the winter, but this was prevented by problems with customs clearance.

In order for the humanitarian aid from Great Britain to arrive at the university, the administration and specialists of KrNU carried out painstaking preparatory work, which lasted almost a year. For unhindered receipt of humanitarian cargoes, the university needed to obtain the official status of a recipient of humanitarian aid in Ukraine. This status exempts the subject from paying customs duties, which in certain cases may be a third of the value of the cargo. The solution to this problem was taken care of by the Center for International Activities of KrNU.

In the end, the problem was solved, an automated system for registering humanitarian aid was launched in the country, and Kremenchuk National University received official status as a recipient of humanitarian aid in Ukraine. This gives reason to hope that our educational institution will be able to receive the next humanitarian cargo quickly and freely.

The staff of Kremenchuk National University expresses its sincere gratitude to colleagues from the University of Leicester for the fruitful cooperation, mutual understanding, support and assistance provided during the war unleashed by the Russian invaders against Ukraine!
